The complex formation allows removal of phenolics and alkaloids from plant samples, thereby inhibiting any modification of proteins by them and any hindrance they may cause in spectrophotometric determinations of protein content. PVP might also enhances the stability of enzymes. Application Polyvinylpyrrolidone has been used in the purification of glutamine synthetases from plant samples.
