The reagent is available as a white powder which is soluble in water. It loses water at 100 C and decomposes at 237 C. Zinc acetate can be generated by the action of acetic acid on zinc carbonate or zinc metal. The compound is stable under general conditions, however, it is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.
